John (Jack) Mustard is professor of Geological Sciences at Brown University. He has been a member of the faculty since 1996, prior to that he was an assistant professor for research also at Brown. His main academic interests are split between planetary and environmental science and is particularly interested in the processes that shape and modify the surfaces of planets. He is a member of NASA’s Land Use Land Cover Change Science Team. Involved in the exploration of Mars since 1989, he is a currently a co-investigator on the European Mars Express mission and the Deputy PI of the CRISM investigation for the 2005 NASA Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. He is also a science team member of the Moon Mineralogy Mapper orbited the the Moon on India’s Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft. He has authored over 120 academic papers and hundreds of abstracts for professional meetings. He was recently the Chair of the Mars Exploration Program Analysis Group (MEPAG) and a member of the Planetary Science Subcommittee of the NASA Advisory Council. He is currently a member of the National Academy of Sciences Space Studies Board.
